I'm helping someone out who's trying to create Blu-Ray discs of their home movies. They have Vista 32-bit and Full K-Lite Codec pack installed. They are using PowerProducer 5.5, which came bundled with their Blu-Ray drive, and all video and audio is working, except for aac audio in mp4 files. The audio works fine in Window Movie Maker, and in multiple media players. Audio and video driver codecs are updated. Anyone have any ideas on what to try?

After uninstall of KLite pak, uninstall, reinstall power producer.

Doesn't Power Producer install support aac audio?

    Ask in their forum.

Here's what a Cyberlink tech instructed someone in another post about audio problems:

PP5 does not support AAC format by default. CyberLink does not have an immediate solution.
An unofficial solution to this is to install some codec pack such as K-lite:
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

In Cyberlink's response to me, they told me to install Quicktime and the Divx codec. I replied that I have Quicktime (though I don't know what that has to do with it), and I have K-Lite installed, which contains the Divx codec. They said that was fine and then told me to update audio and video drivers.

I installed PowerProducer before I installed the codec pack. The audio was missing then.

I installed PowerProducer on another PC with Windows7 and imported the same .mp4 file. The audio was there. Why would it not work on the other PC? Is it Vista causing the problem, or something else?

All I'm trying to do is help a friend be able to easily burn their camera's mp4 files to a Blu-Ray disc. Any recommendations on free, easy-to-use Blu-Ray authoring software?

Does it work fine in PowerProducer 5.5? The same mp4 video files that are missing aac audio in PP5.5 play fine in Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker.

The codecs are obviously there. PowerProducer 5.5 can play AAC audio, cause I've seen it do it on another PC. What is it about AAC audio in PP5.5 on Vista that causes a problem. Is it something specific to the PC? I don't know what else to check.

Uninstalled K-Lite. Reinstalled PP 5.5--same problem. Installed Divx codec, no help. Anyone got any ideas?

Um....what the hell does the Divx codec have to do the "audio " or "Blu Ray"?

You're using 64-bit Vista, right? Is PowerProducer a 32-bit, or 64-bit program? DivX is a 32-bit codec, as far as I'm aware, so if PP is a 64-bit program, it won't be able to use any 32-bit codecs installed on the system. (64-bit programs cannot use 32-bit codecs, and vice versa.)

hech: The newest version of DivX adds support for h264, maybe AAC audio (probably, but I haven't checked), so maybe the OP believed it might help.

Should I go in and change priorities on Audio Codecs through the Control Panel?

Cyberlink Customer Support said that the OEM packaged version of PowerProducer does not support AAC and that I'll have to upgrade to the full version. This sounds like a cop-out to me. I installed the same version of PP on a Windows 7 machine and the AAC works fine. It just doesn't work with Vista?

Is it 2 or 5 channel aac?
If it's 2, convert it to uncompressed PCM in Avidemux and save the video+audio as a new file.
    Use that in Powerdirector.

    http://avidemux.razorbyte.com.au/milestone/2.5.5%20(7257)/avidemux_2.5.5_win32.exe

If you don't want to do the conversion, uninstall the codec pack and install ffdshow and the haali media splitter.
After the installation, enter the ffdshow audio decoder config and set codecs/aac to something other than
"disabled". Assuming powerdirector can use directshow codec, it should work now.

EDIT I tried AVidemux myself to do the above and it crashed. Perhaps the ffdshow idea is better.
AVIdemux is a never ending work in progress, just to maintain stability, unfortunately.

Uninstalled K-Lite. Installed ffdshow and haali. I set AAC decoder to both options and still no audio in PowerProducer.

BTW, GSpot says the audio for the mp4 file I'm using is "mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC".

Perhaps the Powerproducer doesn't work properly with directshow codec?
Does PP work OK with MKV files? If so, here's a method.

Download one of the old versions of AVIdemux (the new versions are having some problems. I downloaded 2.43 and it did the job)
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools/AviDemux/old-versions#download

Open the source. On the left, leave video at "copy", set audio to "wav pcm" and set format to MKV.
At the top, hit SAVE and give the path and complete file name, including extension (eg myfile.mkv)

Use this new MKV in PP.

    PowerProducer won't accept mkv files.

I think the problem is specific to the audio created by the camera, but I can't tell what it is. I tried some other aac files with PP and they worked okay. Here's info about the file given my MediaInfo:

The above mediainfo is not too useful unless you compare the failing audio section (mediainfo) with a file that works.

Regarding my mention of AVIdemux; you may be able to get away with putting the data into an avi file.
Do as above except set the "format" to AVI; save as myfile.avi

In the end this will save you time if you can get it to work.
