I am trying to put some video in a powerpoint presentation. Just as a test, I was able to play a clip that I created using a dvd vob file that I converted to avi using vdubmpeg. But when I ried to play an avi that I had captrued, it gave me and error. If I converted these avis to mpeg2 in tmpengc, they would load, but I just got a black screen. Any ideas?

I can insert a video object and use an avi, but it doesn't have the nice controls that you get when you insert the video just using "Insert" "Movies or Sound". Oh, I am using Office 2000.

There are about 6 different ways that you can insert a video clip into Powerpoint. Some examples:

    1. Insert | Movie
    2. Insert | Object | From File
    3. Insert | Object | Movie Clip
    4. Insert | Object | Video Clip
    5. Insert | Object | Package | drop file into package
    6. Hyperlink

They all do somewhat different things in terms of windowing/placement, user controls, resizability, relative/absolute referencing (IMPORTANT!), and which File formats are supported.

Find out which method works best for you with a sample simple AVI, then see what formats that method supports, then convert what you've got to one of those formats.

    HTH,
    Scott
