I'm really pretty clueless as to which forum this would belong under, so if this gets moved I hope somebody will let me know...
Anyway, I've been looking for double-sided DVD-Rs that I can use on a Panasonic DVD Video Recorder (DMR-E50). Ones that will work and are fairly inexpensive.
I found one brand that I've had my eye on for a while:
http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia/94dvgenpurdo.html
But I've tried emailing them asking what the chances are they would be compatible with my machine, and I got nothing back. Every time I've called their offices, I've gotten an answering machine message saying they weren't available.
I was planning on just ordering one to try out, because i figured I'd only be out a few bucks. But with shipping it costs EIGHT BUCKS for ONE lousy disk.
Whenever I try to search for something I could use, I never get good results. It seems like a somewhat hard-to-find item. Please help!

I bought some of those a while back. They worked fine with my Sony and a couple other players I tried them in. One was a Toshiba, another was a Sylvania and it also played in one of those MinTek portable DVD players. They were out of stock everywhere and on backorder when I got mine but they were going for about that much, maybe a little more. The only other ones I could find in stock anywhere were the Verbatim 9.4's and they were like 8 bucks a pop if I remember correctly.

Why pay more for a double sided DVD-R when you can buy 2 DVD-R discs for a lower price than a single double sided DVD-R disc?
I mean it just doesn't add up to me!
You can buy standard DVD cases that hold 2 DVD discs but take up the same exact space (the outside dimensions of the case) as a case that only holds a single DVD
Seems like a no brainer ... I mean surely you can't be THAT pressed for space?

I wanted my 24 disc Super Bowl season DVD set to fit into 6 double DVD cases. That and I just thought it would be cool.

Afternoon,
what about these
from www.svp.co.uk at around 21p (GB) each ? Four disks per case will take 6 cases.
Cheers

Thanks for the info, I might just take a chance and buy a few.

While I'm not THAT pressed for space, I still love the idea of taking up as little shelf-space as possible. I also bought those cases a while back for my Monty Python's Flying Circus DVDs, and also for pairing up movies with their sequals. -

These have only been out at svp a short time, they replace some - which I bought - which where not the same width spine and where a pain to get disks in and out of so I will be replacing them as soon as I can. I did check the site this morning and there are no published specifications fo width/depth etc I'm afraid.

Here's a big bumpola
So, I bought the DVDs in that link so many months ago. They worked, but not as well as single-sided discs - Almost every time I used them I got a wierd error message; usually what would happen is that it would record for about 30 seconds, then stop. The recorder would shut OFF, turn back on by itself, and ask me to check the disc. I would have to try multiple times before it would finally record. This was an annoyance, but the discs worked and that was all I cared about.
BUT THEN one day, I was recording something short, shorter than 30 seconds. So I hit stop before it had a chance to error. What happened was that it errored even worse; the player froze up, and the tray wouldn't open at all. The disc was completely stuck inside. I called the support line, and nothing they could do could get it out, though they suggested many things I didn't think of or know about. I eventually had to take it to be repaired. I was without my recorder for 4 weeks. I got desperate and went out and bought the same recorder from Circuit City, since I knew I'd be returning it before 30 days. I mention this because I had the same problems with the double sided discs on this other recorder as I did on my own recorder (both were the same exact model number and everything) - so I know it wasn't just MY recorder.
My recorder got fixed, and I returned the other one for full refund.
So my question is, what could have caused these errors? Is there a better double-sided disc that one could use for these machines? I have been using single sided discs, but I find myself wishing I could use the double-sided discs again. Thank you in advance to any one who can help out -
you called the support line to get a disk out the disk tray in your DVD player?your either extremely lazy, VERY VERY wary of even the slightest mark on your player, or it was just alot harder to get out than anything ive seen, and had a watertight seal around it?
If i were you, i'd have just bought and bunch of single layer, single sided disks, and bought the biggest DVD cases i could find (when i say biggest, i mean 'hold the most DVD's'. i know at www.svp.co.uk they have much bigger than 4-disk cases now. Hell, i bought one case and fitted the whole alien quadrilogy in it.

Double sided discs just don't seem to be made with any real level of quality. You can buy single sided Taiyo Yuden blank DVD-R discs for only $30.00 per 50 pack or $49.00 per 100 pack from RIMA.COM so why mess with the rest when you can have the best?
