  1. hi., I am new here., so please bear with me. I have read through anumber of similar threads, but none the same. heres my dilema..

My computer, windows xp home edition, no longer fully recognizes my dv camera. I have tried a number of programs....premier 6, premier 7 pro, windv, studio 8, windows movie maker., but nothing works. they all give the same basic message. Failure to initiate DV device., or error in recording., etc. My camera is set for capturing, I have been capturing off of it on this computer for the last 6 months. Recently, I took my computer home from college, and while at home, I deleted a lot of things off of it. things i thought i didnt need. mainly programs., bu i did delete a codec pack. directly after deleting everything the capturing failed. I have reinstalled the codec pack, as well as a better one., still nothing., I think my firewire still works becasue when its plugged in, it reads DV IN on the screen of my camera. And when using premier., I can fastforrward, rewind etc, the camera using the commands on my computer screen. theres just no picture. I have checked device manager, all drivers are up to date and working correctly. I deleted the drivers and let xp reinstall them, nothing. I have tried everything, and although it is really gunna be a hassel. , i'm looking at reformating my computer. Does anyone have any idea why I cant get my camera to capture? any input would be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time.

*EDIT* - My friend has the exact same camera, Canon ZR90, and windows xp home edition., and i tried my camera on his comp, and it worked perfectly.

  2. Hi Sean,

I have the exact same problem with my Sony PC-330 and just posted a note in an earlier thread. I did try capturing with the trial download version of Scenalyzer. Have you tried that program yet?

    http://www.scenalyzer.com/download.html

It still doesn's solve the core problem of capture not working with everything else, but at least I was able to get the video from the camera to the computer.

If you have installed SP2 then this could be your problem. I have a oldish Sharp mini dv cam wich worked perfectly well under XP home until SP2 came along.

This is the thread that fixed mine tonight..
