I have a dual 2.5 G5 mac and was curious what the normal converting time was from mpg to dvd. The mpg file is 635 mb. It seems to be taking a very long time. As i am typing this it has been almost an hour. Is this normal? thanks

  2. It is normal. In the past, encoding a mpeg-2 file took several days. The reason of this delay is the furious complexity of the involved computation. I will post mpeg-2 encoding speed benchmarks soon.

is this the correct encoding that i am trying to do? I want to take this mpg file and be able to play it on my home dvd player.

  4. This depends on your source file format. You may post the information displayed in the left-side LCD screens of the "Summary" tab.

    it is a mpeg-1, 352x240, 23.976 fps

    audio is mp2, 44100hz, 128 kbs

is that the info you were talking about?

  6. Yes. A DVD may use mpeg-1 video, but your audio has to be resampled to 48000 Hz. So you may re-encode only the audio and save time.

    1. Use the demux tool to separate video/audio from your mpg file
    2. Re-encode the mp2 file at 48000 Hz sampling rate
    3. Use the "Mux as.. DVD" tool to recombine the m1v file and the resampled mp2 file.
