Ive been working on my LP collection to the PC, and so far my results are very good. I am using Audition to do the recording in 32-bit, 44Khz audio for best possible sound I can get.

Now heres where it gets tricky...on some of the songs I record from the LP's there are of course some quiet passages there that may cause the sound to drop off slightly when I play the song back on the PC once the song is done. I do set the level to the highest possible without distortion, since I use my external mixer to make all the audio adjustments depending on the song (the adjustment in Windows I got at the setting I want w/o changing it).

So does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the parts of the quiet sections of the music without it dropping out a bit? Its not that bad, I can work with it, and thoughts will be appreciated. And don't tell me I should go out and buy the CD's of these albums because im not rebuying what I already own :P

  2. U can try the normalize option after u record the track to the computer.

What it does is taking u're highst peak of sound and taking the volume up till it gets a little below oDB (Before distortion) and taking all the track volume up the same level it did to the highst peak. That way the lowest parts of the track can get a little louder.

Could it be the program you're using to make your recordings? I use Polderbits Sound Recorder & I don't have that problem. It makes an exact copy of the record & then I use Goldwave to eliminate any pops & clicks. The end results are really excellent.

The program Adobe Audition is fine for my recordings, each song ive recorded with it has turned out really well. Im recording them all in 32-bit samples so the filters will work better, then will downsample to 16-bit. It was just those few songs with those quiet passages. Right now Im just getting the songs in my computer; I will get the editing done later on, because thats usually the longest part of the job. On all my songs I let the dB level peak out between -2 and -1 dB to ensure maximum sound quality without distortion. But if normalization is needed for those few songs then I will consider that.

You shouldn't get any dropouts if the hardware and software is functioning properly. If you don't get dropouts while monitoring the audio, you shouldn't get it in the playback.
