Are you recording an analog composite input? Do you see a picture and hear sound in preview?

What version WinTV software? Mine came with v3.4A, v3.4B is current but I'm using the 3.4D1 beta.

    You can get v3.4b here

Try reinstalling the software to the v3.4b or v3.4D1 beta if you want QAM tuning on cable.

Read through this to decide whether you want to play with QAM tuning in current buggy state.

Is that what they ship with the HVR-1600 in Canada?

I'm not sure if Canada has free QAM tuning on cable. Rogers Eh?

I didn't understand. What WinTV software shipped with the product?

This card won't do anything with a sat box except cap from composite or S-Video.

You mentioned cable. With the beta software, the HVR-1600 will tune analog and non-encrypted cable digital channels. I'm not sure if Canada cable has non-encrypted digital cable channels. In the US, the cable company can't encrypt channels that are available over the air.

The CD should list the version. Mine is yellow and says Version 3.4A.

Coax probably requires tuning Ch3 or Ch4. Best to call Hauppauge about your error. They may send a CD for free.

Sounds like you got an older one. You need to update. Current version is 3.4b.

The older model is not QAM (digital cable tunable)

    74551 model 1101 MCE version
    (has RCA audio connectors)
    ------------------------------------
    74021 model 1178 (QAM capable)
    (has Minijack audio connectors)

    Uninstall WinTV, then reboot.
Then install the new version and see if it works better.

Oh you are on Vista !

    You better call Hauppauge support.
The System Requirements say the HVR-1600 is Vista Premium certified.

    Mine is on XP.

Usually when it says to insert the CD, it gives you a browse button. If so browse to the directory that contains the uncompressed install software.

  24. The WinTv software doesn't seem to good to me either.
I had to go to their website to get the latest to even get their hardware working. Makes me wonder how many get returned as bad when it is the software they shipped with it.

XP MCE 2005's Media Center works as your experience bears out. However thebig problem with MC is that it uses a high bitrate when it records the HD channels and the movies done that way need to be either burned to a DL DVD or shrunk.

The good news is they look good.
