  1. i install virtualdub and was trying to open a file so i could join two avi files and this message came up "could not locate decompressor for format 'mp43'(microsoft high-speed mpeg-4 v3).
    virtualdub requires a video for windows(vfw) compatible codec to decompress video. directshow codecs,such as those used by windows media player, are not suitable.can someone help me?

    Divx 3.11 isnt the right codec.

  7. MP43 stands for MPEG4 version 3 of the early microsoft MPEG4 codec -- which was really just a technology demonstration. Divx started with that source code so 3.11 is compatible with it. Later they rewrote the whole thing (starting with their version 4) to avoid copyright and/or patent issues. Microsoft themselves abandoned the codec to develop thier own proprietary WM9.
