I downloaded a movie with bittorrent and I was given the ifo, bup, and vob files (no folder, just the files by them self). I just checked them with SmartRipper and the files are not encrypted. When I tried to play the DVD back, the player gave me an error I had never seen before.

I'm certain that the media type (DVD-R) is compatible because I created my own DVD with my own video clips using Roxio DVD Builder (Included with Easy Media Creator 7). That DVD played back with no problems.

The first time I burnt the DVD, I just put the files on the DVD and didn't bother putting them inside a video_ts folder or anything like that. The second time, I created my own video_ts and audio_ts folders (the audio one I left empty because I have seen other DVD's that don't have anything in that folder) and put the files in the video_ts folder. Same error on the screen in both cases.

    What am I doing wrong?

And nobody else will either if you don't post the error msg

What type of disc did you select in the Roxio software?

I checked the compatibility list of my DVD player and it supports a lot more than just DVD-R so that's not the problem. https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=2938&Search=Search&#comments

I'm using memorex DVD-R media. The burner is a new LiteOn Dual Layer.

Is it possible that the disk I am trying to copy/burn from my hard drive has a region that's blocking playback?

It should be VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS - some players are picky and wont accept video_ts/audio_ts

Did you have Roxio burn a data disc or a movie disc?

The first time I tried, I chose "Data Disk" simply because "Creator Classic" does not have a "Movie Disk" option to pick.

Then I found a seperate DVD Copy Utility that is included with the software package.

The first time I used that, I just selected something like "Whole thing" (In terms of what was to be copied). That didn't work. The second time, I just selected the Movie Only, and before it burned, it did a Transcode that took about 10 mins before it actually started to burn to the DVD. That didn't work either.

Some people have told me it's a problem with the blank media I'm using, but I don't think so. Others tell me "What the hell are you using Roxio for?! Use Nero, dumbass." So, could it be a problem with the software because I haven't really tried anything else. Any recomendations? A copy of Nero came with my burner, but the CD it came on is actually bad. I've tried it in several drives and it just doesn't want to be read. I can download it though very easily.

Well, maybe, just maybe, the files you've downloaded aren't OK?
If you create an ISO image of VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (with all your downloaded files inside VIDEO_TS) using ImgTools Classic, mount the image with daemon tools and try to play it on your computer, does it work? If yes, it is a potentially valid DVD, go ahead and burn the ISO to dics with DVDDecrypter.

I haven't really determined the exact problem, but I am certain that this is an isolated incodent with these paticular files because I have had no trouble burning anything else. The vob files will play fine seperately, but the IFO is mostly likely the problem. I'll look into getting it fixed eventually.

Not to be insulting, but it sounds like you're just copying the files to a Data DVD, not creating a Video DVD. When burning, are you selecting "Video DVD" or "Data" as the mode? The burn mode is important. Burning a VIDEO_TS folder to a data disk doesn't create a video.

    Ok, here goes:

Step 1: DON'T ASK FOR HELP BURNING PIRATED MOVIES THAT YOU DOWNLOADED ILLEGALLY FROM BIT TORRENT.

Step 2: Go download the trial version of CopyToDVD. Install it.

Step 3: Put all the files in a folder called VIDEO_TS.

Step 4: Right-click the VIDEO_TS folder and pick "copy to DVD" (yes, it will be there now that you've installed CopyToDVD).

Step 5: It will say "hey it looks like you're burning a movie - shall I make this a VIDEO DVD?". SAY YES TO THIS (important).

Step 6: Wait 15 minutes or so.

Step 7: Watch your perfectly-burned disc.

Step 8: STOP DOWNLOADING PIRATED MOVIES AND ASKING ABOUT THEM HERE.

There, that wasn't so hard, was it?
