To play my DVDs I use Sony Playstation 2 and burn my DVD+R discs using ImgBurn in a Pacific Digital 8x Mach-8 (Lite-On LDW-811S) with firmware 0052, using Windows 2000 Professional.
My Sony discs burn beautifully, but I'm getting mixed results with Maxell discs.
My first Maxell burn gave me a working main film, working chapters, one working extra, and one unworking extra, but the second Maxell burn gave me working main film, working chapters, and no working extras.
I'm disinclined to upgrade firmware because of the warning ""Failed firmware updates may render your drive inoperable."
The great cornholio mentions DVD+R as being finnicky, fiddling around with the settings to get chapters and such to work right, but he doesn't go into specifics.
Any suggestions, other than returning my 100 blank Maxell discs and buying Sony instead?

...or get a better DVD player? As far as DVD players go, PS2 must be one of the worst. It's very picky on media. I exclusively use DVD-R, and make very sure I keep the size no bigger than 4.2 GB. Even then, then, my PS2 has problem with some backups. And that is PS2 slim, which is substantially better as DVD player compared to the fat PS2. In fact, I don't think I've read anywhere PS2 says it can play recordable media at all, so that it do play some can be seen as a bonus.
