  1. I already have two Pioneer 107 (one for each machine), but my DVD readers (both are Pioneer from about 4 years ago) are dying.

So, for replacement, I have the following list. Which one would you guys think the best of the bunch.

    LG 16x DVD-ROM
    Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM
    Sony 16x DVD-ROM

from my experience, not all "16x" are created equal. I don't want the fastest one, I want the most accurate one because I tend to duplicate wedding videos from my clients.

    Sincerely,
    Sapiendut a.k.a. FatCow

    Hi sapiendut,

I was asking the same question a few months ago and the general consensus was to go for the Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM.

I was told that it does actually rip at up to 16x and is very reliable. I've recently got a new PC built with one in - just not had the chance to try it yet, but the recommendations came from trusted members of the forum...

  3. I just went to Lite-On website. It seems like they no longer make DVD-ROM reader anymore. I guess it'll be up to my luck if the store I'm going to will still have them in stock.

As far as DVD burner goes, I bought three Lite-On burners (4x only) and all of them died within 2 months of usage (I burn about 200 discs a month) whereas any of my Pioneer (have been using them since the 104 era) tend to die only after around 1,200 burns.

    Thanks for the info!

Odd - I've seen loads of 'em for sale here in Oz.

Yes, I agree about Pioneers. I've just bought a DVR-108D having been very happy with my previous Pioneer (DVR-106D).

    No problem. Good luck...

I used to live in Perth, Mate! Still longing for Anticols, Burger Rings and Samboy Chips.

Where are you now? (It's not in your profile...)

And, I have to confess, that you need to look a little closer - look above my avatar... And then on to my signature...
