  1. I've got the JVC recorder and am trying to create a disc using files recorded in SP mode. I usually author with TMPGEnc DVD Author but wanted to do a fancier menu than this program will allow. I tried Ulead DVD Workshop and it's a great program. I was able to create the menu exactly like I wanted it and it looked fantastic. Unfortunately, whenever I try to author the created disc I get either an "Unknown Error" or an "Operation Aborted" error. I've checked the Ulead forums and have seen posts from several other users experiencing similar problems but there has never been a solution posted. What program is everyone else using? I'll probably try DVDLab next but this is getting frustrating.

  2. I haven't tried it, but DVDLab definitely gets lots of positive comments from those who like to create advanced menus, etc.

Ulead DVD Workshop mainly crashes with the demo and pirated versions that were cracked. It can also happen on v2 without the patches/updates. DVDWS v1 was crap.

I use fully updates/patched DVDWS2 a lot, as well as DVDit! PE and TDA.

I use DVD workshop 2 to author the disc with video file recorded on JVC DVD recorder. DVD workshop 2 works reasonably well. I have authored a disc with 6 menus (5 of them are motion menus) and 31 titles. Sometime it crashes if I run other programs at the same time. It works quite reliably when it is the only program running.

Yes, install the latest patches for both the OS and DWS2.

  5. I'm running a legitimate copy with the latest patch. I'm wondering now if maybe the problem is my source files, as they were first copied to the PC from the JVC disc using TMPGEnc DVD Author's "Copy to HD" function so I could trim them a bit. I'll give DVDWS2 one more try, this time editing from the JVC disc with Womble first. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just go back to de-muxing everything and using Maestro, since I know that works, but it's time consuming.

TDA was probably a mistake. No telling what it does.

Use DVD Decrypter to extract the files, Womble to edit.

  7. Seems DVDWS2 only likes the files if they are de-muxed. After that, it works a treat! :P

Thankfully I've never had that error on VIDEO MODE files. VR MODE is another animal entirely.

But will Womble recognize the AC-3 audio from the JVC when brought in?

Yes. Womble just can't encode AC3, but it will do simple cutting and joining. You can hear it, too (unlike TDA without the AC3 plug in).

DWS2 don't like VOB. You cannot simply rename those files to MPG and pass to DWS2. Sometimes it works and most of the time it don't.

What I usually do is to extract the file using DVD Decrypter and use Womble to extract the section I want and save it to a MPEG file. No re-encoding of both video and audio during the whole process.

  12. That's exactly what I did. I had to save them as seperate video and audio streams for DVDWS2 to work right, though. Otherwise, it kept giving me the 800413a3 error. There are alot of posts on Ulead's support forum, Creative Cow, etc. about this issue but no real solutions. I then found an old post here...

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=215781

... that recommended using de-muxed streams. The Videohelp forum strikes again!
