I have read a lot of posts on this site and others mentioning the same issue but I'm not having much luck following the same procedures mentioned to fix it so I'm starting a new thread. I apologize in advance if I missed another solution that might address my problem.

I record TV shows using WinTV and allow the program to automatically convert the output to MPEG-2 format (alternatively it can create .TS files). Using about a dozen authoring programs I am able to successfully create a DVD but the audio is missing. I can play the .mpg file using WinTV's player and other programs and the audio is present so it seems to be lost during the authoring process.

I successfully used ReJig to demux the audio and video into .m2v and .ac3 files. However, when I attempt to author DVDs using ReJig or IFOEdit the programs crash immediately. Muxman will allow me to browse to the .m2v file and select it but then it will not show up in the list of video files to confirm.

It would be nice to edit out commercials, add menus, etc., but at this point I would be extremely happy just getting the full recording with audio on a DVD that I could play outside of my PC.

When you record mpeg-2 with your capture device, does the captured file contain video and audio
that is DVD compliant, or are you expecting the encoding/authoring tool to re-encode your file?

The typical all-in-one programs typically recognize the streams as compliant (assuming they are),
skip the encoding, and go straight to the authoring stage. I'm thinking of "DVD flick", AVStoDVD,
    ConvertXtoDVD, etc,etc.

When you say the audio from the DVD is "missing", do you mean the VOB contains video only (perhaps verified by opening
one of the VOB's with Mediainfo and looking at the stream info) - Or, it is present but doesn't play?

Also, any authoring program should leave a log. Have you checked it for errors.

Does your capture card create the mpeg file with mp2 or ac3 audio?

Could you post a mediainfo output of one of your captured files. Put it in view/text mode and
    put the results in here.

I tried using several all-in-one programs (Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe, Digiarty WinX) and they produced DVDs that I could play on my DVD player. However, there was no sound.

Following the boards I tried DVD Maker Pro and added the .m2v and .ac3 files I had demuxed using ReJig as I explained below. I noticed that it produced a DVD folder with an empty AUDIO directory.

Attached is the output from the MediaInfo for the most recent file I'm attempting to burn. I hope I answered your questions and I greatly appreciate any help...

  4. It's 1280x720. Forget about authoring it. It has to be reencoded first to be DVD compliant. Maybe you're burning data discs, but not true DVDs.

Looks like a typical 720p HD capture.
Give AVStoDVD a try. Install the program . Open it up and set your preferences (paths, NTSC/PAL preference).

Add the source file. If it offers to index, accept it. Start the encode. By default, it create a video_ts folder.

Thank you. Both ConvertXtoDVD and AVStoDVD worked, but since AVStoDVD is freeware I will stick with that one. I guess I just hadn't tried enough software packages after all. Have a very happy holidays and thanks again for your help!
