  1. I have a .vob file that my Sony DVD HandyCam DCR-DVD101 burns to a DVD. the resolution is 720 X 576 which is a 4:3 ratio.

My problem is the editor I am using is not accepting the .vob file because of the proprietry sony codec used to create the vob file. I use to work with the Hero convetrter to take a vob to mpeg2 but it is not working properly(alot of bugs). What kind of free converter could I use to convert the vob file to mpeg2 or avi and not change the 4:3 ratio?

    Any help is appreciated.

maybe give mpeg-vcr a spin... It has read every .vob I've thrown at it and will save in mpeg-2 without conversion... IIRC
