  1. I've bought a Canon MV700 mini-dv camera but I'm unable to capture through ny firewire port..the cd wich comes with my camera is only a pinnacle movie editor...I was unable to find any drivers for my camera of my firewire port...I've search the cd...I've search the canon homepage and nothing...it just seems that there is no driver avaiable for this camera
and my firewire port doens't even recognise a new hardware attached to the port...does anyone knows how can I be able to capture with my canon through my firewire port?

What OS are you using ??

WIN SE/ME/2K/XP have built-in drivers for FW (1394) but..

WIN98 Gold requires external drivers (from third party)
You can find them onlly in ADS 's Pyro BasicDV kit ($39 @ CC)
** On the CD, its under Drivers. Anyways..

I have a slight problem too, (win98gold) I can get mine to work but
only if I use RsDvCap.exe ..but it wont work w/ DVIO / winDV
I'm still researching this. (that's in case you are having the same issues)

    Good luck,

  4. I'm running Windows XP SP2
I honestly do not know what is the cause for my problem
but I believe that..or is the cam..or the firewire port..my search for drivers has lead me into nothing...
btw..my firewire is no onboard..I've bought an addon pci card in order to support firewire...but I believe the problem does not lie there...I've tried to connect the camera into other computers and again she remains undetected..the programs I use to try to capture are pinnacle studio and adobe premiere..and in both apps it can't find a connected camera
is there any general driver? or any program to access directly the firewire port without drivers in order to make a capture?

    Ronhrin,

I'm no XP user.., so I don't know a thing about it. But I do know that it has
built-in support for 1394 (firewire) devices. From Win SE/ME/2K/XP all these
OS's have built-in support for 1394 devices (weather onboard or PCI card)

windows 98 gold is another story. But, it also has 1394 support. They are
    on the windows 98 disk.

    Perhaps you can do this..

    * unplug your firewire device (ie, your cam) cable etc.
    * restart your windows (from off state, to on)
    * wait till XP boots up into windows and wait till you have your mouse ready.

    Now..

    * move your mouse to the center of the screen (where you can plainly see it move/ditter)
    * proceed to turn on your cam, and then plug in your firewire cable into
... your cam, but watch the little mouse on your screen to see if it jitters or
    ... blinks a few times.

If you see your mouse do something as you plug in your firewire cable (or
even if you unplug it from the cam) then that means your XP is configured
    for firewire support.
    .
The next thing you would probably need to do is go into your device manager
    (whatever that is for XP)
and find the firewire (DV support or something that says DV in it) and see
if there is a yellow point there. If so, then it usually means you have a
driver issue. And your next step is to figure out what the issue is.
    .
Could be a DirectX issue, or a 1394.sys issue or who knows.

You also might want to check your BIOS.

    * for onboard firewire (built-in) your mobo, make sure that it is turned on.
    * for PCI cards, then make sure that you turn OFF firewire support built-in
... to your mobo, through your BIOS, otherwise you could have confics or
... issues w/ your firewire support under XP

Hope the above helps you some, and good luck,
    -vhelp
