Well this rumor has happened about 4 times since I started here, but this time there is some creditablity to it.

Company just opened another call center in another texas town where they are hiring alot cheaper. (this is a fact)

County records show that our building has been sold. (unverified fact)

The upstairs section we dont really use is supposedly being boxed up. (unverified facts)

So it seems that by the end of the year I might be out of a job.

I have a question that likely no one can answer though. I was told that if the company offers you an position in the company at another location and you turn them down that you cannot collect unemployment. Anyone know if thats true? Obviously I'm in Texas so...

    That's not a good sign.

I don't know about Texas, but here in New Mexico I believe that you must accept a job offered by the company if it doesn't involve relocating. But there again, I have never collected unemployment here so I couldn't even tell you if that's true here anymore.

Go to the Texas state webpage and find dept. of employment security, or a similar department. They ought to have the rules there somewhere

  3. Sounds like a screwed system if that can happen.

They have them but its a bunch of crap trying to figure anything out reading them. It would require relocation though.

    Flay,
How far away is the new job? In Texas it could be 2 miles or 1,200 and still be in the same state

So maybe you should pick up a phone and ask the State employment office if it's true.

Also, once you get your answer, carry your happy butt over to the City/County Hall of Records and ask if the building you work in has recently been sold.

Finally, try not to take what you heard on the 'Net as gospel. Go by what you find out for your self.
    Hello.

Gonna call 'em on monday. As far the the building itself I the Deed that was suppose to be upto date as of the 6th of this month still shows us as the owner.

When I get back to work I'm going to talk to the originater of the rumor to see his "print out" and ask exactly where on the site he got that, I'm starting to not buy it.

To be honest this usually happens about once a year, and usually about this time, the building sold thing is the only thing that gives the rumor feet and its not been proven to me yet.

I already feel better then I did when I posted the message. Besides I'd hope a tech with almost 10 years experience with PCs and 4 years with macs could get out and find a job that pays better then the crappy $13/hour I'm making now.
