  1. Microsoft is rumored to be prepping a Blu-ray drive, in the $100 to $150 range, for the Xbox 360 with the release date soon.

"Another intriguing note is that apparently the company that’s been contracted to manufacture the BD drive is Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp (TSST). We know Samsung’s pretty comfortable making Blu-ray drives, but maybe as part of this joint venture that was formed back in 2004, Toshiba—the holdout of all HD DVD holdouts—is happy to tag"

That's good news if it was true.

However since I have a ps3 and a pc bluray drive I won't be buying it.

But it makes a lot of sense if they do it.

It was an HD-DVD drive only. Which I do own. It works just fine and is a usb drive that can also work on the pc (assuming you have the high def version of powerdvd or windvd).

Now that bluray settop drives are hitting the 300.00 mark I wonder if this will be as appealing as it was before. Granted if you have an xbox 360 this is a great option if they go through with it. 150.00 for a bluray settop addon is a great way to go rather than a pricier and bulkier unit.

What I like about the hddvd drive is it has extra usb ports. They come in handy for rockband (although I don't really use them).

Okay, thats what i thought but i was not sure.

I'm still happy with my PS2 and 54" SD tv 8)
So i have not really payed much attention to all the HDDVD/BLURAY crap, luckily for me seeing as one format seem's to have caved to the other, because i would have bought into the NON sony format just to spite them!!
    LOL!!!

I figured maybe next summer, when and if, they have some more games that i would like to play for the PS3 that i would pick one up and pick up a new HD TV for the living room.

I don't know... Microsoft's insistence that they wouldn't release a 360-compatible Blu-Ray drive aside, I'm not really sure they'd consider it at this time, unless they were debating the possibility of games on Blu-Ray discs. (Which would probably annoy a range of 360 users...)

@al haibara - yep game console add-ons designed for a different class of games that require the add on have rarely been succesful.

    Sega CD anyone????

Actually, the SegaCD did okay enough in Japan (MegaCD). Sega of America just didn't seem to make the right decisions in regard to it, if I remember correctly (including not seeming to know which games to market for it, which carried over to the Saturn... and then, there was the 32x...)

I read a few months ago that Microsoft was prepping a new XboX 360 with Blu-Ray built-in and that NO add on Blu-Ray drive was in the works.

Course this was total rumor LOL :P

Very happy with my PS3 purchase
