My wife took her work computer in for an update. She brings it back home...plugs everything back in and now the monitor has a GREEN tone to it. We are limited as to what we can actually do with the computer since she "technically" does not have admin rights.
Could someone have mucked up a setting to make it this way or are we looking at a hardware failure somewhere?

Thanks in advance if you have any advise.

OOps...it's running Windows 2000 and it was a security software update the company did.

95% chance one of the guns in the monitor isn't right. Meaning either the monitor or its cable is messed up.

I still have an older backup 15" we call "old green"

Actually my wife just spun around from her work computer to read your reply...bumped the tower with her knee...and the normal color is back...
I still say it's the monitor though.

    Damn man....you ARE good..

Thanks for the advise...I think I'll try a monitor swap just in case...after her important "work" work is done.

When my monitor did that you could wiggle the cable near the back of the monitor to make it normal for a while.

I've seen this as well, my mates had a terrible green tint to the display which went away when you wiggled the cable on the back of the PC.

Yup means the cables not making a good conneciton inside or has a short in it with one of the colors. If its an internal problem someone whos good at soldering can fix it. But from personal experiance the fix only last about 6 months for me then needed redoing.

  6. Check the cable to see if any pins are missing or bent.

Agreed... this has been a culprit before for some colleagues. Also, make sure cables are snug and screws are tight.

Our 21" CRTs go to this at work after about 6 months, but it's only a slight drab green hue to it. I found out it was actually the video card's fault after getting a new workstation and plugging it into the same monitor. I tried correcting in the monitor settings but it didn't help much on that old station. So that means the two 21" monitors I trashed actually worked just fine. Oh well, stupid aperture grill monitors and those two damn horizontal lines telling me to do things

Actually I found the problem. The video card has those "nuts" on them that thread to the metal part of the card....then the monitor cable end screws to those "nuts"...well....one nut was almost falling off of the card it was so loose.
I've never had that problem on any of my computers back home but it has happened to me twice on two different computers here in Europe - Germany actually.
I'm sure with it being a "company" computer...the components used are not top of the line to say the least.
Thanks for the tips. Problem solved and didn't need an admin password....a good day indeed. The coincidence of it being in the shop right before this problem came up had me a bit worried.
