As the title says. If it is possible, is there an exact shade of green I have to get, or is it just general light green. Would I be able to get fabric at Walmart?

There is paint and fabric available that is exact RGB green and it's expensive, but nearly anything can be worn in the foreground. Most chroma-key software allows for fudge-factors and if you're careful with your foreground colors and lighting you should be able to make nearly anything work. A local public access channel doesn't have any green screens. They just project green onto a normal screen from a projector.
Of course, in addition to lighting and foreground, your camera and format are going to affect how successful your chroma-key works too."Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

I just saw an ad on TV the other day for some new game that uses a fabric greenscreen background and something like a webcam to play. Something about acting out scenes from your favorite movie. Might be worth looking into just to get the fabric if it's fairly inexpensive.
