I found it interesting that a number of people have what seems to be the same issues. I wonder if its because they are struggling with the same problematic source. Why? Because I've burnt about 50 DVDRs after using SVCD2DVDMPG+ and not had a single issue...
Now whilst most people post issues they want resolving, I thought a Poll to see what other users success rate is would be intersting.
Poll criteria: if you have burnt a DVDR after using SVCD2DVDMPG+ and it plays to satisfaction in at least one DVD player, then consider it a success (were not looking at DVD player compatability here). To obtain reasonable results only people who have attempted lets say 5 different "projects" (i.e sources) should vote.
(ChrissyBoy: Made this sticky as I think it will be very interesting.....)

Sounds like a good idea
For what its worth I've probably done about the same number if DVDRs and have seen just two showstopping issues:
- evergrowing file at demux phase (a mpv file is create which consumes you whole HD!)
- OR again on demuxing, many small files are produced when you would expect 2
The above scenarios have happened just twice for me from about 100+ source mpgs...... That said i couldn't see what i could do as a workaround.
So i'd put myself in 95% success rate band.

BUT would love to see some kind of reasons WHY !!!!!!!

and gives NO reasons why and you asssume that it
is continuing without problems, UNTIL about 2 Hrs.
pass and nothing has progressed.
BUT on the whole a NICE piece of software. -
I've only done a couple successful projects. The unsuccessful ones seemed to have always been fixable by eliminating defective mpg files.
I have several projects backlogged, awaiting further development of the menu feature. Did anyone besides me expect the menus to be available at the title level, not the TS level? That may not be feasible due to the programming complexity it could take. I have several projects with 50+ music videos, and manipulating them all among multiple TS's is VERY cumbersome.
But I still love the program overall - it's been a dream come true. -

I haven't voted because I've only burned 3 DVDs, all successfully. TTwo played with some sound sync, but I think it was the original encode of the SVCD and not this program.
I haven't burned any more because I am waiting for the menu option to be complete. Though I a brief explanation on how the menu should work would be nice. I'm guessing from one post here I need to do separate TS for each SVCD I use to make the menu work. The sample .bmp looks only to hold two option menu, what about those putting TV episodes and not movies on DVD? I'd like to use it for 4 or 5 episodes per DVD.
Love the program though, best $15 I've ever spent.

I got the prog coz doing it manualy sucked, and for that alone its 100% I had a few issues with sound and found in the end it was the dvd players NOT set to play the right khz !!!, but I have had problems with some films and after a lot of effort found that the source encoding is probably the problem, some use strange encoders and this I think may be the issue, they often create non standard svcd files in very subtle ways.
I even found out that i DONT have to convert to 48k as my players will support 44k so even better and faster.
Use a dvd-rw or +rw and do a test on the sound and save some time, I didnt realise mine could support the 44k

sometimes i get repeated parts of a movie (end of cd1,beginning of cd2). What would everybody else do in this situation, and/or/how would it be cut to get a perfect join......I'd like to know from other users.THX

Thats because the person who split the original did that so you know where you were, only by re-editing the mpeg and doing a split yourself can you correct it.

Dear Chris,
Just started using your program a couple of weeks.
I have been trying to author a DVDr with SVCD2DVDMPG and ULead Movie Factory 2.
When I use your program to generate my DVD mpg compliant files I get some noise or distorted pixels or blocks on the right side on the video files....(I did set your program to create PS streams at the 352 resolution patching the first header to fool the ULead Movie Factory 2 software program.
Please note. The mpg file that is created from the bin file which is 480 x 480 PAL does not show those distorted pixels. It looks great! (Even if I rip the 480 x 576 NTSC bin file, the mpg looks great but the DVD.mpg "352 resolution" complaint file still has those distorted pixels on the right side of the video footage.)
I have tried to resolve this problem for two weeks to no avail. I decided to use a different encoder like TMPGE to convert the mpg to the DVDmpg "352 resolution" compliant file. The TMPGE converts the mpg file using the (System Video+Audio) setting at 352x480 or 352x576 with MPEG-2 audio set at CBR at 4000 -6000, Full screen with aspect ratio just fine.
I THEN place all my converted "352 resolution" compliant files DVD mpgs into DMF2 to create my subschapters and menus. DMF2 authors the files GREAT (its a very fast process too).
I CAN PLAY THE VIDEO_TS FOLDER using WinDVD and PowerDVD software.
LOOKS GREAT!
BUT when I try to re-patch the entire headers of the .VOBs files located in the Video_TS folder to the "480 resolution" with your program, the video footage goes crazy!
THE DVD Video is Distorted with mixed images (I see the picture twice side by side, both are distorted. The size of the video is also cut in Half and the there is a large green space inside the movie at the bottom to replace the full screen video.
My computer consists of the following:
CPU: AMD 25000 Barton Chip
DDR RAM: 512MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP 8x with 128MB of RAM
Monitor: Dell 20" Triniton D2026T (Display set to 1024 x 768)
Hard Drive: Western Digital 200GB with 8MB buffer
Motherboard: Soyo KT400 Ultra Dragon
DVD ROM: Lite ON DVD ROM
DVD Recorder: SONY 500A
DVD-R Media: RItek Disc
Please advise.

Charles - i replied to your email - but here it is for all:
first up if you do the reencodeing thing with TMPGE and then author with dmf2 - you don't need to repatch to 480. Thats what is making everythign crazy. Just burn the folder & watch.
Secondly if you patch to 352 with svcd2dvdmpg you author with dmf2 and repatch the vobs to 480. you will only be able to view the movies WITHOUT the blocks after you have authored & after you have repatched. Don't waste your time watching 480 mpeg patched to 352.
Hope this help.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Thanks Chris for replying so soon,
When I use SVCD2DVDMPG+ to rip the bin files and patch the 1st header to the 352 resolution, the DVD.mpg files create have the blocks in the video footage. Why is that?
Chris, do you mean that the 352 DVD.mpg files are suppose to have the blocks?
AND When I place them into DMF2 to author the DVD.mpg files to the Video_TS Folder THIS IS CORRECT?
BECAUSE when I play the VOB files (,IFO) in the Video_TS Folder using WindDVD or PowerDVD everything shows GREAT!
BUT... I thought I had to repatch the entire headers to 480 before I burned the Video_TS Folder using Nero.
Are you saying that I just need to
1. Repatch the Video_TS Folder to 480
2. Burn the Video_TS Folder to Nero (for example); THEN
3. View the DVDR disc on my computer via WinDVD or PowerDVD and also on my standalone DVD Player? And it will display the movie correctly?
Please advise.

I've burned about 20 dvds and all but 2 were good, the 2 bad ones were due to faulty .mpg files so that makes 100% success rate for the software.
NB.
many thanks to ChrissyBoy for helping sort my recent problem out. For everyones elses benefit Chris spent 2 evenings sending me about 20 odd custom written software updates to try and resolve my problem, and he did it. I've never ever had technical support and such personal interest on this scale before, absolutely nothing comes even close - and for so little money. This software has to be the bargain of the year so payup and support this mans efforts, who knows what he may produce for us in the future.
Many thanks Chris. -
well aside from some dvd players not converting pal->ntsc, i've had one player that just couldnt handle the svcd video being patched, the picture was totally distorted.. and on some dvd players when it would go to the stream (if there were more than one mpeg) the picture would become distorted and stay distorted..
i was playing with this program for a week, but soon got tired of it..there were just too many compatiblity issues.. most of the movies i have are pal and the free version makes you use mp2 audio.. just too much incompatiblity..
since i convert 2/3 disc s/vcd pal telesyncs, the incompatibility issues that arose with this program were just too much for me..
the method i use now consists of (for svcd);
use vcdgear to extract the mpeg file from the cue/bin image file(s)
load up the mpeg's in mainconcept mpeg encoder and have it convert to ntsc dvd (lpcm audio).
once that completes, i load up each mpeg file through virtual dub (with mpeg2/ac3 mod) and extract the wav's.
i then convert the wav's to DD 2.0 AC3's with sonic foundry soft encode 5.1 (i would use besweet, but the 2.0 AC3's it makes dont work with pioneer dvd players)
after thats done, i load up the mpeg's & ac3's in to tmpgenc dvd author, create a dorky little menu & chapter selection screen..
and then i burn through recordnow max 4.5.
the only compatiblity issue i have now is whether or not the dvd player will play dvd-r or dvd+r..
the method i use is a little more complicated.. but the results are light years ahead of what i got through svcd2dvdmpg..
there is no noticable video quality loss, mainconcept encodes very very quickly, & i have perfect audio sync.. -
Success rate? I can't even buy the damn program!
PayPal are a bunch of idiots who can't update my debit card details.
A search on NoChex suggests they're liable to extract $$$ from your account for no reason, and Kagi demand $20, which may be well worth it but doesn't 'feel' right.
Can anyone help me give this guy some money for SVCD2DVDMPG+?Started out with valve radio, crystal microphone & reel2reel tape recorder with 'magic eye' level indication... -

I have a 100% success rate with this tool...... Works fantasticly!
Only problem i have ever had was with T3, and it turned out it was because the Mpegs were corrupt!
Good job Man!
Ohh....... and thats out of about about 30 DVD's -
Started out kinda bumpy but ChrissyBoy helped me out with a quick fix. I burned around 7 DVD+Rs & DVD-Rs with with 2 to 3 VCD,SVCD on each. Had dissapearing menu buttons a couple and found out that the menu buttons won't show on one of my machines because it is setup with colorstream. Downloaded 1.5 yesterday and have burned three DVDRs with 2 SVCDs each and have not made one coaster. Chapters work good and all. Great work ChrissyBoy, my stack of VCD, SVCDs are slowly shrinking.
