  1. My PC specs are as follows:

    Windows ME
    Celeron 700mhz
    192M PC100 RAM

I know this is an old computer. I've ripped and encoded and my speed on encoding is 880 kb/s. Is this normal for the specs of my PC. I'm using DVD Decrypter.

Also, will adding memory help with the speed, or is it just the fact that I have an old and slow processor. I'm thinking of adding a 256mb stick and taking out the 64mb stick to get 392mb RAM. How much will it help?

And I do realize that sooner or later, I'm going to have get a new PC.

Sorry to say: not much. You have a friend with memory to spare or lend, try it. Celeron 700 would be about PII 500 speed. Stick with it as long as you have to and then get yourself something in the range of 2.5-3 GHz with 512 memory.

The Extra RAM will make some difference however that old Celeron 700 I suspect will be the main bottleneck , a faster more modern CPU will encode that video so much faster .

  5. Agreed. You need more ponies under that hood.
