  1. When I burn DVD's, I find no problem playing that on my own DVD player, it plays just everything. But when I give a copy to friends some of them say they can't play it on their DVD standalone.

    I have a Pioneer DV-444 standalone
I use TMPGEnc for converting to DVD
TMPGEnc DVD Author for making menu's
Burn with Nero or TMPGEnc DVD Author
Sometimes DVDshrink for a little compression

By the way it makes no difference if it concerns a NTSC or PAL movie. I know not every DVD player plays NTSC, but even when I give friends a PAL movie it won't play. Any idea if this is a hard- or software matter?

Or can I be do something wrong?

  3. What kind or media are you burning to? DVD-R's or DVD+R's. Either media is not Compatable with EVERY dvd player..... DVD-R have something like 97% compatibility and DVD+R something like 92% compatability...

  4. Age of the player has a lot to do with it. A lot of people bought DVD players when they first came out. At that time, DVDR technology was not a consideration of the manufacturer. Just about all of the newer players will play recordables now and MEDIA is a big factor. Most of the newer ones will specifically say they play DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW. The best news is that the cheapo players seem to do better on recordables than the high dollar ones, they seem to play everything. I have a Sony I got for $78. that has played everything I put in it. My daughter bought some strange brand from Walmart for $48. that also plays everything.
If it works, don't fix it.
