  1. Lite-On selects the LSI Logic DMN-8602 for its complete line of DVD Recorders

LSI Logic Corporation today announced that its second-generation DiMeNsion(TM) DVD recorder system processor (DMN-8602) has been designed into Lite-On's complete line of DVD recorder products, including the LVW-5002, LVW-5005 and LVW-5006.

Lite-On, a global manufacturer of optical storage products selected the DiMeNsion
processor for its ability to provide the highest-quality digital video and
    innovative features.

"We have a successful history with LSI Logic's proven DMN-8600 processor
and are pleased to include LSI Logic's second-generation processor in our
newest line of products," said Max Chen, vice president and general manager of Lite-On's Digital Consumer Business Unit. "The maturity and flexibility of LSI Logic's innovative solution allows us to offer high-performance, affordable consumer products that satisfy different needs in the market."

A key feature of the Lite-On LVW-5005 and LVW-5006 models is "All Write,"
or the ability to burn to DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, or CD-R/RW discs. Support for CD-R/RW allows consumers to create their own CD, VCD, or SVCD discs. Equipped with DoMiNoFX(TM) technology, the models include video noise reduction to improve recording quality and progressive scan to deliver 'Visibly Superior' video images. Both models also include programmable timer recording and LSI Logic's Direct Digital Dub(TM) technology that simplifies the transfer of personal digital content from a camcorder to DVD over FireWire, with one-touch control via a single remote. The LVW-5006 also includes a JPEG compression engine to support an Internet browser.

"We're pleased to have been selected by Lite-On for its complete line of recorders enabled by DiMeNsion processors," said Umesh Padval, executive vice president of LSI Logic's Consumer Products. "LSI Logic and Lite-On share the same vision to drive the success of the DVD recorder market by delivering high-quality DVD recording products with innovative and easy-to-use features."

The DMN-8602 leverages the industry-leading integration of the DMN-8600,
the industry's first single-chip DVD recorder solution. The DMN-8602 further
integrates an NTSC/PAL TV encoder and a USB controller, and requires only a
single unified memory subsystem. The integration of these functions into a
single chip reduces design complexity and provides system designers with a
considerable savings on the overall bill of materials.

LSI Logic's Consumer Products Division provides innovative digital media
processing and silicon solutions to industry-leading, worldwide consumer
electronics manufacturers. With a complete line of cutting-edge products for
DVD, DVR, EVD, video game, digital and HDTV, portable audio, set-top box, and professional video production/broadcasting devices, LSI Logic delivers entertainment into and throughout the Digital Home.

Hopefully, they'll use VBR instead of CVBR in the future. But I doubt it.

I'd think this was REALLY old news.
