  1. Hi all,

Ok i'm having a rough time with this dv to dvd stuff. I've captured the media via firewire to my hard drive. no prob there. but when I make a vcd or svcd the quality gets pixelated. I can't figure out how to burn it to dvd because the only way I know of is in the vob format, but I don't know what program to use to convert from windows avi to VOB. any suggestions are appreciated.

I just drop the DV files into TMPGEnc encoder and select DVD template. Then take the resulting file and put it into TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Most any encoder and authoring program will work. You should install the Panasonic DV codec to work with the files. (There are other codecs that can be used also.)

DV is just a form of AVI and it's already close in specs to the DVD format, just need to encode and author.

With a DV codec, you can also open and edit the DV file with Virtualdub.

For more info, study the 'Guides' to the left.

  3. Pixelation is most likely due to a low bitrate or noisy source or a combination of the two.

The best thing to do would be to look at some of hte guides on the menu to the left, specifically look at encoding with TMPGENC Plus and Authoring.

Authoring is the process of taking the encoded MPEG files and creating the appropriate DVD structure. Authoring will create your VOB files. I suggest using TMPGEN DVD Author or DVD-Lab. There are also guides available for the authoring process as well.
