I know that there is a post a few pages back about this, but no answer. I have virtual dub 1.3c which purportedly supports the asf to avi conversion. however, when I open the file it states that it has been truncated and won't open it. Whatever that means. Then I found some asfinder program that almost opens it, but says couldn't locate decompressor for format 'wmv1' unknown. Is there any way to easily convert this to avi? I tried tmpgenc but it froze each time. I think I'll try again while I sleep to make sure nobody touches the computer at all. Maybe that was the problem.
thanks.

ok, this is a work around, but it works... download the latest Windows Media Encoder 7 from Microsoft and use it to encode with no compression the .wmv file. the file will get pretty big. use tmpgenc to encode the outputted file. this will work unless there is an error in the original .wmv file... then you will need the Media 7 Resource Kit and use the Script Indexer to re-index the media file.
