  1. i got a call from a friend who is having probelms with the firewire port on his Audigy. he is attempting to use for video transfer (he got a new sony digi-cam). the firewire had never been used before (just a extra on the audigy).

i will be going over to his home tomorrow, and wanted to ask if anyone has used the firewire on the audigy for this (or any) type of thing? are there any known issues with the firewire on the audigy?

it is a Audigy, the first version, and i am headed to creative to look over some things.

    any info is appreciated.

    Thanks

Well my comp came with the front external firewire port attached to the audigy firewire port. Why I have no idea since there was two one port on the Mobo.

Anyhow it would constantly disconnect, of course I call tech support and there suggestion is to plug into the external back port, of course it works. Well just use that one they say....I'm ranting here sorry You get the point.

That firewire port is on there to connect the driver bay panel for the Audigy Platinum series. I don't think it was made to be a fully functioning firewire port, I could be wrong. Anyway I haven't had any trouble with my cam since attaching my front external port to the mobo.

I have the Audigy 2 on my PC with windows XP, I have used the firewire port for everything (external burners and hard-drives) and use it regularly to download video from my Sony camcorder.

The firewire port in the card is fully functional. The problem probably is with Windows XP.

Windows XP tends to have a problems recognizing DV camcorders, if you do a search on-line, you will find many people with this problem.

It seems to be prevalent with Sony camcorders, but does affect others.

I have a Dell and my brother does as well, but my camcorder (and others)will not work on his, while all camcorders I have tried work great on mine.

The only difference I have found between our PC's is that I have the MYDVD package that came with my Sony DVD burner installed. I have not had a chance to try installing it on his PC to see if it helps him.

  4. ok, it appears that a USB/Firewire hub was installed by my friend. it mounts in a 3.5" bay, giving front access, and a cable is run from the firewire (audigy rear) to the hub. if i connect to the port on the rear, the cam is detected, and works fine. so the hub seems to be the problem.

I encouraged him to just use the port on the rear, and deal with the inconvenience. he is a little upset that his $20.00 purchase did not function as he wanted. but hey, the USB ports work, and so it is not a total loss.

    thanks for the feed back.

Why don't you try to connect the hub to the same internal port that the rear firewire port is connected too. Disable the rear one but if he only needs it for cam it would be more convenient.

  6. the firewire port on the 3.5" add on does not function at all. since the only use for his firewire is the cam, and unplugs the cam leaving the cable plugged into the rear.

the USB psrts on it work, just the firewire fails to detect. he purchased the hub almost 2 years ago, and has never used it for anything but USB, until the purchase of his sony cam last week. sorry if i was unclear, but i tried every possible method to allow him the use of the hub to no avail.
