    N00b question:

    I want to play the WDTV Live in a room that has a PC that is already setup with a 5.1 surround system system.

    WDTV Live ---> PC/Soundblaster Audigy 2 ---> 5.1 speakers.

    Is it possible to get "digital surround sound" from the WDTV Live to the Soundblaster Audigy 2?

    If the Audigy card has a digital input, probably. The WD has a optical digital output, but I had to convert mine to coaxial digital for my existing coaxial audio setup. The optical and coaxial audio content is exactly the same. You can use a converter like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&p_id=...seq=1&format=2 You also need a short Toslink optical cable to connect to the converter, then just a RCA type coaxial audio cable to the sound card.

    The back of the sound card has a 3.5mm mini-jack line input. I don't think it's digital though.

    Would it still work?

    Edit: If this matters, my 5.1 system is setup/connected from the sound card's three 3.5mm analog outputs: (1) front L/R, (2) center/subwoofer and (3) rear L/R.

    There seem to be quite a few configurations of a Audigy 2 card. You would need to research your specific model to see if it has a digital audio input. You definitely need a digital audio input for what you want to work.
