  1. I have a Philips DVP642 Divx/DVD player, I also have a very large archive of mostly divx/xvid encoded movies both which play on the DVP642 (with bottom over extended and the sides kinda cut off) but watchable.
I want to back these up on a DVD, my question is how many hours can I get on a standard DVD and do I have to reencode the videos or can I just make a filedisc similar to what I do when burning a divx file to a CD?

  2. Burn as a 'Data DVD' just like you do with CD's. (DVD-ISO)

DVD will hold roughly 4.35 GB's, so assuming your DivX/Xvid files are roughly 700MB each, you should be able to put 6 on each DVD.

Most burning programs will give you some sort of indicator on disc usage as you add files to be burned.

    Good luck.
