  1. I'm getting a PCI gfx card for an old Compaq Presario, with Celeron 566, 128MB PC100 RAM, and some crap Intel chipset. I'm mainly going to use the card for video out to the TV, and some light gaming with Counter-Strike, MOHAA, Unreal Tournament, and maybe I'll try some other games that I couldn't get working w/ the current integrated graphics.

I've narrowed it down to 4 cards from Newegg:

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 7000(VE) Video Card, 64MB DDR, DVI/TV-Out, PCI -OEM

    APOLLO GeForce4 MX440 Video Card, 64MB DDR, TV-Out, PCI, Model MX440 64MB-PCI, Retail

128bit interface but only 64MB RAM!!!
XFX NVIDIA GeForce MX4000 Video Card, 64MB DDR, 128-bit, PCI, Model "PVT98LQT" -RETAIL

128RAM but only 64 bit interface!!!
Rosewill nVIDIA GeForce MX4000 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, PCI, Model "e-GeForce MX 4000 Light Version(128-P1-NV94)" -RETAIL

After seeing my choices just now, I'm really focusing on the last two... but If anyone can give me another reason for any others, plz do.

What's better, higher bit interface, or VRAM???

NOTE: I don't expect much performance, just want a decent (by yesterday's standards) card for under 50 bucks.

Thanks in advance for any help. I appreciate it.

  2. Higher bit interface vs. more VRAM?

    and

Some of the cards have DX7, DX7.1, and DX8 support, and I assume DX8 will be best for DX9 games.

Also the one DX8 card, the XFX GF4 MX4000 is also the one with a 128 bit interface. But can the Rosewill's 128 MB VRAM outweigh all that (it has 64 bit interface, DX7, and maybe higher clockspeeds (its the only card that specifies))?

    Thanks.

  3. I am no expert at all, but I would go for the XFX. A 128-bit bus will allow it to shift a lot in and out of that 64MB of memory rather than 128MB to store more but being slower to access it.
