I just have a few questions...Putting more eps on DVD

Hello Everybody,

I'm backing up my Sopranos and I can only fit 3 episodes on 1 DVD and not 4 like my originals. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I'm sure the original is DVD-9 and mine is only DVD-5 but I am only getting the Episodes, no extras and a basic menu in TMPEnc DVD Author.

Do I have to cut the end credits or something to fit all 4 or change the video res?

To Encode: TMPEnc DVD Source Creator
Then: TMPEnc DVD Author for the VOB's, etc..
Then I burn with Clone DVD

It sounds like you may have miscalculated the bitrate you require to fit 4 eps to the 1 disc. You should be able to press on and still put 4 eps to a DVD, ignoring the warnings TMPGEnc DVD Author will give, then just use DVDShrink or DVD2One to transcode it back to fit on a DVD-5.

Or you could re-encode. First and foremost, the bitrate determines how much you can fit on a DVD. What you need to do is add up the running times of each episode (if you want to fit 4 episodes, then add the running times of all 4 episodes together) to give you a total running time for the entire DVD. If you are intending on putting a menu on, I would add 5 minutes to your running time to allow for it. Plug the total running time into a bitrate calculator and it will tell you what your video bitrate needs to be to make this happen. Re-encode with your prefereed settings, making sure that your average is whatever the calculator tells you.

Or you could just use CloneDVD, DVD2One or DVDShrink from the get go instead of re-encoding.

What have you done to get the files to this stage ? Have you ripped these files from your DVD ? If so, what program/method did you use ?

How convenient ......

Your frame rates and resolutions are all over the place, which is a telltale sign that either you haven't derived them from the original DVD or you specialise in creating non-standard MPEGs

I think you'll be better off using your original DVD and then using DVDShrink or DVD2One and doing a full backup.

Let me say that I think you will be much better off using the DVD as your source because the files will be a much better quality than the ones someone ripped for you

If you use DVDShrink or DVD2One, the entire DVD-9 should fit on 1 DVD-5. If it doesn't you could always try TitleSetBlanker or VOBBlanker to remove anything you don't need. The benefit of the last two is that all your original menus stay intact.
