If a DVD-Video disc fails during burning leaving plenty of space on the disc, is it possible to use the rest of the disc for data?

I have about 10 DVDs that failed during burning. Nero says the discs are "open" but I can't write any further data to the discs because Nero says it can't write disc-at-once to such discs (and track-at-once is greyed out). Is there any way around this, or are these discs useless?

Oh well, the thought was great while it lasted. (And they are -R discs not -RW unfortunately.)

Somebody should invent a program to recover failed burns, since the disc hasn't been "closed" yet it seems like there should be some mystical way of using the rest of the disc for something.

If you have CopyToDVD you can go into to settings and set up the multisession feature. I've used the couple of coasters I've made for data. They are DVD-R's

I know ...it doesn't set well to throw away that much storage space. But at the price of new ones in 100 spindles ...it makes more sense to chuck it and grab a new one.

It would be interesting to see if it could be done ...a challenge. But not as a regular practice.
