How to create Fade-in's and Fade-out's to avoid cold stops?

Is there a program that will allow fade-ins and fade-out for video's
much like in audio programs? I sometimes chop-off the end credits
to get a higher output, but don't necessarily like the cold stops this
produces. I'd be interested in fading out the credits so the video and
sound doesn't just suddenly stop.
