  1. Hi guys,

I have two video clips which I'd like to encode, and would appreciate a bit of help, the thing is, they're in slightly odd resolutions, one is in 480x280, and the other is in 608x256 - these aren't resolutions I've come across - they're widescreen, but is the aspect 16:9??

So any help would be appreciated - what program to use etc etc.

    Thanks very much,
    Rob Lewis

A DVD compliant mpg's aspect ratio is determined by it's attributes. For example you can have 720x480 in either 16:9 or 4:3.

That said if your video is displaying by it's resolution then the smaller one is close to 16:9 and the larger isn't close at all. What you need to do is determine the attributes of your video. Try this tool. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=gspot&s=&orderby=Name&convert=&dvdauthorfeatures=

I've found that Ulead Media Studio Pro has been able to do anything that I can think of or tried. I haven't tried importing video with odd resolutions like you have but providing it will accept the video you'll be able to accomplish what you want easily. The smaller video will be the easiest if the resolution is the display size. All you would have to do is create a DVD compliant mpg in 16:9 format. You could do the same with the larger one but the aspect ratio will be screwed up (if the resolution is the display size). You can fix this by overlaying it with the correct ratio on a black background or cropping the edges.

LOL actually it shouldn't be that hard as long as you can find an editor that will acept the video. Ulead Media studio Pro has a free 30 day trial, let me know if it accepts the video if you try it.

  5. In TMPGENC select VGA 1:1 as the source aspect ratio, then Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio for the output.
