Ok right now I'm on the verge of purchasing about 200 8x DVDs from supermedia store. In the past I have burned pretty much everything with Prodisc 4x. This is like 1000+ DVDs. I lost count ok :P Anyways my burner is a Pioneer 107D. Anyone want to recommend me buying Prodisc or Ritek G04 8x media?

  4. I've had no problems with it - although there are some bargains to be had if you don't buy cutting edge...

I have had great success with both the Prodisc 4x and the last batch of 8X media from Prodisc. I still am using the 4x because they are less expensive.

  7. Prodisc has been weird lately but then so has Ritek. If I look at my 4X results on a 107D I would declare Ritek the winner which is where they should be as they cost more. If the price is the same I would clearly go with Ritek. I have tried quite a few times to get someone to post scans from Prodisc 8X and so far no luck. These scans from Riteks in your drive are superb.

You know, now that you brought this to my attention I think I will grab 100 G05s with the coupon and free shipping. That scan is just too good!
Still a few bugs in the system...

I just did a scan of a Prodisc 8x (S04) burned in my new DVR-108 at 16x. Here's a link if you're interested. It's at the bottom of the page right now.
I haven't tested Ritek G05 yet, but I burned a lot of 4x media at 8x or higher on that page just to see what would happen. A pleasant surprise was the MCC01RG20 4x rated media at 8x. Turned out very nice, and is probably what I'll be burning the most of in this burner for now.

  9. Thanks a lot. Did you happen to do any at the rated 8X or are you able to scan with a burner? I have compared Rom drives and burners and there is no reliable relationship. ROM scan don't seem meaningful.

It is true that the ROM does report differently than the burners. I have not burned at the rated 8x, but can't really help you anyway since I don't have a Lite-On or Plex burner to scan them with. I'm happy with the ripping speed results of the media at 16x and the Kprobe scan looks pretty good. While they might not be totally accurate, they are somewhat comparable to each other and an indication of how well the ROM can read the disc. Of course, the Pioneer only burns the very last part of the disc at 16x speed... most is written at 8x-12x. Looking forward to 16x -R media.

You should really reconsider using the 166 for any Kprobe tests. I have a 167 and a 166 and an 812S and I have found that there is no relationship whatsoever between the ROM drives and the burner. Sometimes it is in error by being worse and sometimes it is in error by being better. As well there is no proportional adjustment you can make. It is always just wrong. That is the primary reason I got my 812S.
