  1. I've just spent over 25 minutes ordering one item from dabs. They must have the slowest ******* website around - who the **** hosts this shit ? I am now waiting for the add a payment page to appear, 5 minutes and counting. This is painful to use.

  4. @Ripper - I'm on a 2mb pipe apparently.

    @Russ - XP Home full. I'm assuming you can't upgrade from 95.

  5. How much you paying, Dabs does not strike me as the cheapest place for that.

There's two versions of it - the Full version and the Upgrade. The upgrade requires a copy of Win 98 or higher to work.

Where can I get an OEM ver ?

    They are all over eBay....

I think Newegg has some as well... check out some of the 'mom and pop' computer store websites, they usually carry OEM stuff...

  12. Really, I have never had a problem with them

All of my pc components came from them no probs. I know that Will Hay and Craig Tucker use them a lot as well.

Have you heard something bad about them?, there returns process is a bit slow and it is hard to talk to a human but apart from that their service getting the item to you is top notch.

I ordered my OEM XP Pro from them and I had it next day.

My PSU conked out last week and they are going to replace it even though its 8 months old.

Whatever you heard forget about it, give them a whirl. If you order before 3 they will be able to get it to you tomorrow special delivery.

  13. Not heard mate - experienced. There's a thread on this site about it. Had to threaten them with legal action before they got there arses into gear. The most unproffesional responses to emails I have ever seen. I'll never use them again.

    Might be worth googling it.

  15. CCL computers.
    http://www.cclcomputers.biz/

I use them all the time. Very good service. Place your order over the phone, which I prefer.

    XP home with SP2 £59.81
    XP Pro with SP2 £96.83

    One stipulation
OEM Software is only available with new systems or selected hardware purchases (CPU, HDD OR M/B)

Get yourself some extra storage with a cheap 80GB hard drive for around £35 and you can buy the OEM versions of XP.

  18. I suppose I am the same I have only used them four or five times and they have always been good.

It takes them forever to answer the phone though and they have no hold music so it just sounds like the line is dead.

    Forgive me Cobra ....

I have a fundamental bias against overclocking. My engineering training and experience has taught me to respect published limits by the mfg. It's what we call "good engineering practice".

But then, in my field we design ultra-reliable equipment that MUST ...MUST remain ultra-reliable for 30 years, and must start out more reliable than the requirement so as to meet the requirement at the end of the 30 years. Doing something like overclocking is asking for trouble in that instance.

But for the home PC, if you're not too worried that you're exceeding the specs and don't mind if your CPU becomes an incandescent waffle iron should your heat sink lose its thermal transfer properties ...hey. Go for it

I should. It was shameless ....

I should try it to see if I can even give myself a yellow. I gave Cobra one and he gave me one (see "Our new mods" thread, I think). But I never tried yellowing my own avatar

  23. I have had the Asus FX5900 on order from Overclockers for three and a bit weeks now:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/FX5900_Series.html

When I ordered, it was in stock. A while later, it changed to out of stock. I have been waiting ever since. They said it would be out for a week, but that was obviously a put-off. They have offered to let me change what I've ordered, but none of the FX5900s are anywhere near that price.

I don't know what they're playing at. This is the first problem I've had with them, but then I've only placed four or five orders with them.

Used overclockers for my cheiftec case with no problems.
Nothing but problems from CCL and now use ebuyer for everything although be warned...
...whilst I've had no problems with returns I've heard others have.
The trick is to know what you're talking about and stick to your guns.
I guess their overheads are so low they don't account for any returns.
