Something funky has been going on with my system, whenever I now try to convert an AVI or MPG file to DVD format.
It has become very slow! I have been using NeroVision, ConvertXtoDVD, DVD Flick, TMPEG, etc for years, but over the last few weeks the encoding times have increased significantly. For example, an average 90-minute AVI would take around 100 minutes to complete. Now, it takes around 180.
What could be causing this? (I have not made any major changes to the system.)

Run a memory check - http://www.memtest86.com/
Run drive diagnostic - go to the manufacturer of your hard drive to get diagnostic tool .
Updated video drivers package and install it .
Go into windows explorer .

Uncheck the one below these two
Hit apply , ok
Go to
C:\Documents and Settings\>Normal user account by name<\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
Delete all files here except for cookies (some contain login details) .
Next , go to
C:\Documents and Settings\>Normal user account by name<\Local Settings\Temp
Delete all here
Close windows explorer
Run system tool > scandisk , and reboot system
Run system tool > defrag , even if it says you dont have to , just do it .
Grab hijackthis from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html .
Run scan , save log , if suspicious items appears , post log for confirmation .
After those , check how it performs after its rebooted .

Funky issues can also relate to psu problems .
Like you say you have not made any major changes to the system ... but its those small ones that count over time that tend to come back in numbers ... and they bring their supporters , and groupies with them .
Sometimes slowly ... and sometimes with a thud .
Especially umpteen number of programs being installed over this time tend to leave junk behind in all the right places causing problems within the registry itself .
If that goes south , it pretty well goes down for the final count ... reload os time .

Ps : Clear dust from fans inside case .
