for those that don't know, "gulftown" refers to the 6 core 12 thread monster cpu's intel makes for the desktop (they also make a server oriented xeon with 8 cores/16 threads), well they dropped the price of the i7 970 to $583:

You see, the Core i7-970 has tumbled from $885 to just $583—a 34% drop. Remember this is a full-fledged six-core Gulftown chip with a 3.2GHz base speed, a 3.46GHz Turbo speed, and an LGA1336 package.
i personally wouldn't buy it but for those of you with some disposable cash that wanted a 6 core intel cpu, this may be the time to get one.

    LOL!!!

    I still won't!

This summer i am going to upgrade from my quad to the biggest 6 core AMD with a larger cpu water cooler, a little overclocking and maybe dual vid cards.

    I just wish i could find a mobo that would take 2 - 6 core amd's!!

I've never been an Intel fan, i was so happy when the first AMD chips came out oh those many years ago.....

I see the gulftown is still $600.00 at newegg.

  4. I'm not a fan of Intel or AMD or any other company for that matter. I do lean toward the underdog in this case, but for the most part I buy what gives me the most bang for the buck within the price range I can afford.
