    Hi,

    I'm using Procoder 1.5.

When I encode an AVI to MPG2 DVD specs, the field order of the source AVI is always lower field first.

When I choose the DVD preset as the target, I notice that the field order is set to - top field first.

I always thought that the source and target files should have the same field orders, OR does Canopus know better than me. I change this setting back to the same as the source file

Anyone know which is correct ?

    Thanks
    Scott

  2. Sometimes Procoder does that to me too. I've ruined a couple of disks that way. Be sure to check and change the target to what you know the field order is.

I should not matter which field order the destination file is set, A DVD player should play both without problems.

The important thing is to set the right field order in the SOURCE.

Thats not my experience at all. I can't say for sure what happened with my disks where the field order was set wrong, because I didn't note the settings when it was done. But in my observation, Procoder always chooses the correct SOURCE field order. Sometimes it chooses the wrong DESTINATION field order. Because of this, I conclude that it must have happened on those occasions.

  5. I have also found out the hard way that if the destination field order in Procoder is set wrong.... I get a jittery video.

All my captures are interlaced top field first... but Procoder does not always Identify this correctly. Procoder does not do a good job in Identifying source field order. It seems to default to whatever you had set it before.

If you like consistency , the way to process DV is to
delete the first field, and then encode the remainder as
pairs of fields . That way the resulting MPEG will be top field
    first.
