  1. I was looking at the reports and rating for this player and its excellent. But im just wondering if the region-free remote hacks work to this player because no one seem to response about its compability to play PAL dvd.

I have Pioneer DV-340 and i think it has the same setup menu like dv-333 but unfortunately the hack does not work so PAL dvd usually flickerly and the picture is going up and down although the sound and color present in my tv.

I plan to buy this player if someone can confrim the remote hack works and it can play PAL dvd in US.

    Thanks

sure the both play PAL (333 and 343) but unless you have a pal tv -- it will not look to good (they dont convert pal to ntsc) ..

as for the region hack -- ive done it on the 343 and you get about 5 shots at it and it then dosnt change anymore ..

  4. Can u change to region 0 which is region free so u can play any region dvd? Also if i can do that then there's no need to change up to 5 times as u describe.

About PAL TV, Im not sure if my tv is PAL. But a while ago i bought Koss dvd player and i change to region 0 and both PAL and NTSC DVD looks good on my tv. Return it though because there are features i dont like.

I'm not so sure about more current models but from the very start through many generations (perhaps even the newest models as well) the PIONEER stand alone DVD players could play back PAL discs but most required a HARDWARE hack and even then a US model playing a PAL DVD would output PAL. No conversion.

    P.S.
The best DVD player for PAL to NTSC conversion is the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 which can be ordered direct from the CYBERHOME website.

thats correct .. to be able to play a PAL disk on a ntsc tv -- it must convert the PAL to NTSC

many PAL tv's can play NTSC though ..

  8. Yeah.. those European TV mostly are multisystem so they can eventually play every format. I wish I bought my tv from Europe =)

Ok I think this is off subject. Im looking at DVD Players section under Pioneer looking for Mulitisystem. Are they mostly accurate? I found that Pioneer 250 and 260 listed and they are at my walmart local store, so i plan to try one of them. So if its ought to be Multisystem as it said then its great.

In the world of international electronics multisystem means the machine (VCR, DVD, TV etc.) can handle both PAL and NTSC in their native formats without conversion. For example, a multisystem VCR can play both NTSC VHS tapes or PAL VHS tapes but it will output what you put in.

That is all multisystem really means.

So you could have a DVD player that is multisystem meaning it will play both NTSC and PAL format DVD discs but don't assume that it will convert PAL to NTSC or vice versa.

just because they play NTSC doesnt mean they all look good (many don't) , plus they are 220v 50Hz for the most part - so you would be SOL ..

  11. Well I just bought Pioneer dv-260. It plays virtually everything including both NTSC and PAL dvd as well as VCDs and SVCDs. So I guess my tv can play both PAL and NTSC good. Though I still want to get Pioneer dv-333 if i could cuz it has excellent reviews and region free(dv-260 is not)

I have a Pioneer DV-333 and it only plays PAL DVDs in black and white (at least in my house).
I belive that if it could play PAL DVDs it would be already playing here because my TV is multicolor system (it can be changed from NTSC to PAL anytime I want).

If anyone knows a way of making my PAL DVDs stop appearing black and white I could really use some help.
