Is there a place on the box when you buy the Lite On DVD recorder to say which model number it is. I am looking for a new DVD Drive and the local Walmart has some Lite on drives. But there is no place on the box to state which model number it might be. I am looking at several brands, so I dont really need input as to the differences between Brand X and Brand Y for recorders. I just want to make sure that, IF and I do mean IF, I choose Liteon I want to make sure that I get the model number I wish without opening the box (which was another thread. ) Thanks.

  2. I've bought both my Lite Ons from Wal-Mart. *warm, fuzzy feeling washes over me*

  4. The only time there is any ambiguity is 411S vs. 451S and 811S vs. 851S. For all the other time, you can tell from the specs of the product...

    4/x = 401S
    4/4 = 411S, 451S
    8/4 = 811S, 851S
    8/8 = 812S
    8/8/DL = 832S
    12/8 = 1213S
16/8 = 1613S (will most likely never exist)
    16/8/DL = 1633S

For the ambiguous ones, you will have to open it up and look at the sticker to be sure. Though I'd be surprised if there are any 11S drives still left for sale. Or even 51S, for that matter. 51S is clearly better, of course...

I believe most WMs are carrying the 812S at the moment. Should be 8x+R / 8x-R.

Just to let everyone know I ordered a Liteon 832S Dual Layer recorder from an other store here in town. This way I knew what I was getting. Paid $120 for it as a full retail box. Thanks everyone for your help.

I ordered the same one on line from www.newegg.com yesterday for $81 with free shipping and no tax (although you don't have any in MT). For the $81 it is the same retail box you are getting. I would consider returning the Walmart one and ordering this one. However, I have had a couple of bad experiences in the past with returns at that particular Walmart in GF, although they were clearance items.

Edit: I just re-read your post and see that you did not purchase it at Walmart afterall. I would still, however, consider newegg. It will save you some money. The black bezel is $81.99 today and the white is $86 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-106-953&depa=0
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.
