    Hi

I am having trouble adding a title to a DV compliant file and saving it back to DV.

Ok here are the details. The DV file concerned is part of a larger Dv file which has been edited using virtuadub and the panasonic dv codec. This only works with Dv type 2 and hence that what my source is.

The UVS project has standard settings. The audio is 32000 and not 48000 as the original was generated from a 32000 source. The whole thing is Dv type 2 , PAL (25 fps) 4:3 Lower Field First, with 32k PCM audio.

Anyway I have dropped a title into the project whis fades in and out on top of the original video footage. It previews well. There are 2 video files in the project which have the same settings as the project (see above).

When doing a create video file (with same as project), the thing renders and gets to 99% before it crashes. The resultant .avi file crashes explorer on single clicking it.

Any Ideas on how to achieve the same thing. I'm wondering if its a 2 video thing, although I have done this twice. The last time had 3 files in it with the title and it worked fine. Any suggestions on how to fix this or get around it are appreciated.

    Darren,

Darren FYI the project settings in VS8 are used for how it renders the preview. By using the same ones as your video in will render the preview quickly because it will only rerender whatever you have changed with your edits.

Two suggestions as to why it's crashing, 1. do you have sufficient disk space?VS8 requires a certain amount of temporary disc space and space for the file to create a file. 2. Have you applied all the current updates?

    Hi

I have loads of space. Theres about 25Gb free and hence it can't be that. There are no patch updates on the web site for UVS8.

I suppose 25GB is not alot however but the combined size of the two clips comes to about 1GB. They really aren't that big. The new size whould be the same as its only had a title added.

Is there any way of checking if the original files are in fact OK. I'm thinking about running them through virtualdub in full processing mode and saving them to possibly strip out any crap that might be in there.

    Hi

Sorry Patch 8.01 is now there. Its been a month since I looked and it only came out this month. I'll try that out as there is an issue with titles and crashing to see if it helps.

    Hi

The latest patch did not work. It still crashed. I did manage to get around it however by doing the following.

I added my title to the first avi and saved (no selection of two files). This worked. I must think that the second file combined with the first was causing the problem. I then saved the 2nd avi on its own (no titles). I did this as for the next stage I took both AVIs and joined them together with virtualdub. I know that the second conversion should have been unnecessary as after all there were no transitions etc., but virtualdub complianed about joining them together. By just doing a plain save, it just saved the last file as DV. I am unsure why virtualDUB should complain as I checked the field order etc. to ensure that my project matched the DV files.

Anyway after I had joined them together I had achieved my aim (without the hinderance of UVS8 - it does tend to be buggy IMHO). I then encoded and burnt my DVD
