A Small Problem in converting AVI to SVCD + Attaching Subs

Well... My brother bought a dvd movie, and there are no subtitles in hebrew (I live in israel).
So I ripped the movie with a dvdripping program, and I downloaded subtitles for it in hebrew.
I Dont have a DVD Burner so I decided to Burn it as SVCD... for best quality.
I looked for a guid on how to convert AVI to SVCD with attaching the subtitles and i found this: https://www.videohelp.com/srtsubsvirtual.htm
When i started the convertion i saw that the subtitles appearing in the TMPGEnc are in jibrish and not hebrew... my question is, when i will put the SVCD in the DVD will the subtitles be in jibrish or in hebrew like in the original *.ssa file??

Crap...
I finished the conversion and downloaded an MPEG2 Codec so I could see the movie on my computer for last check before I burn it... But as i suspected the subtitles werent in hebrew
Can someone pleassssse help here?? how do I make the subtitles to be in hebrew? (The programs I used for this conversion were TMPGEnc & VirtualDub)

Someone suggested i try another approach, attaching the subtitles using FFDSHOW.
Well I tried that and nothing, it didnt fix the problem, i still see JIBRISH instead of HEBREW...
Any more suggestions? I really want to make this SVCD work so plzzzz im sure some one here can help me...?
