I've been burning DVD's for couple of months now. I'm doing a large (for me) batch of 50. I'm getting a 20% failure rate on verification. I have defragged the disk, made sure the burner is properly configured, and updated Nero Express to the most recent version. There was a configuration problem that caused the burning to take twice as long as it should, but I've fixed that. A 2gb DVD of a production we shot takes about 7 minutes to burn and 7 to verify. Last night I burned 8 with no problems. This morning I burned 2 and one failed. I had Nero set to make 5 copies each time.

The computer is in "never sleep" mode. Disks always spin, monitor always on, hibernate off, etc. No screen saver.

The burning process always completes successfully, but two or three of the .vob files are showing either 'differen't or 'inaccessible'. I can't tell anything by reading the Nero log.txt file.

I have winaspi32.dll loaded. The DVD burner is on the secondary IDE bus and the hard disk is on the primary. The burner is the slave.

Sounds like you got a batch of bad Riteks. Slow burning down to 2x and see if it verifies more often. Also, check the dye surface and see if there are any irregularities that could point to bad discs.

  3. I'll make a suggestion since my setup is identical to yours. DON'T VERIFY. That's right. It's absolutely unreliable, in my opinion. Too many false positives. The true litmus test that I've found is to run the finished disc past DVDInfoPro and see if their surface scan turns up any red blocks. If not, your discs should function just fine.

Nero verification sucked for me. Good discs didnt verify, bad discs did. Now I only burn with DVD Decrypter and its much more accurate on verification, for me anyhow.

  5. I finally gave up on Riteks a little while ago. My last 2 batches of 50 didn't burn faster than 2x and didn't prove to be very reliable on playback. Many people here pointed me towards Prodisc 4x from Rima.com. They have worked flawlessly up to this point.

Thanx for the suggestions. I'm about to hit the road, but when I return this weekend, I'll try a few. I have another 100 Riteks to burn, and I've kept the 8 that didn't verify properly by Nero.

    I'll try DVDInfoPro also.

I got Nero and Ritek because they both came highly recommended...

Look in the nero log file - at the bottom is where the errors are listed - like so

    12:35:06 #40 VERIFYERR 1 File UDFCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 5989
    Files are different
    E:\dvds\footy\Volume 1\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB
    VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB (0x0000003BC806: 0x00 <=> 0x3D)

    12:43:32 #41 VERIFYERR 13 File UDFCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 6501
    Status summary Total files=9, identical=8, different=1, inaccessible=0, skipped=0.

    12:43:32 #42 Phase 81 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1655
    Data verification failed
If it reports 'different' check it against the original (binary compare) with a hax editor (beyond compare2) most of the time (4 me at least) there is no difference or the difference is only a couple of bytes (and disc still plays),

If it reports 'inaccessible' 99% of the time its my burner being lazy ! (or over worked)
I turn system of for a while and compare later (binary folder compare) and now all files are accessible and verify OK!

All I can say is it works 4 me and don't trust nero
    Hope this helps,

  10. I used DVDInfo Pro to check a DVD backup and it came up with a bunch of errors near the end. I had made a backup copy of Akira (only the movie) and it plays fine. Should I be worried?

I used SmartRipper to rip the vobs to my hard drive before using DVDShrink to encode and finally, Nero to burn. I'm using Maxell 4x, but they are burning at 8x. The discs themselves are suppose to be of good quality.

Any ideas as to why I'm getting the errors?
