  1. Ok here's the story.

Bought a Sony DRU-530A from Overclockers. Looked for a quick and easy way for getting SVCD to DVD, so used a little proggie called guess what SVCD2DVD works a treat on my player for quick and dirty movies, I knew this wouldn't work on my DVD-rom drive (base or laptop).

So my Dad is in NZ and I wanted to send him some footage of his house and garden (pride and joy) as it is currently being sold. Built and edited footage in Nero Vision Express and burned it.. works on DVD player & DVD-rw but not ROMS

Decided to try an experiment with SVCD, as TMPGEnc seems to fluff my sequence in MPEG mode. I slapped it into wizzard and encoded the streams as PAL DVD "DVD PAL (MPEG-2 720x576 25fps CBR 6652kbps, Layer-2 48000Hz 384kbps)", Authored it in TMPG Dvd Author and burned via Copy 2 DVD.. so it was done the proper way onto RiDisc Ritek G05 and it's pretty sexy.. but guess what.. plays on DVD-rw, DVD player but not roms!!

I did run Nero info on Roms and both support DVD-r! I even changed DVD-rom drive to Sony DDU1613 to see if that improved it.. No joy!

Today I am repeating the process with Ritek G04 Tango's to see if that makes a difference.. I know both drives have played Movies on DVDr before that I sourced elsewhere.

I am beginning to go mad, can someone please help me?

    Hi there,

I did have exactly this problem a while ago (while I was still using my Vivastar RAM/DVD-R drive to burn discs - now I use a Sony DVD +/-RW drive and the Vivastar is used just to extract DVD RAM discs) I would author a disc and check the title set. It would be fine. I'd create an img file and burn using dvd decryptor. All would be well when checked in my pioneer DVD player but put it in a DVD ROM drive and you'd get some whirring and nothing else. I never did find the exact cause but I know that switching to Datasafe Ritek A Grade I haven't (touch wood) had a recurrence even when I've occasionally tried burning them in the vivastar drive.

    Cheers

    Edz

those Riteks are RMA's or rejects.
there also known as landscape discs.
if it works, fine, but steer clear of them in future.
