  1. Hey! For burning one’s backup macrovision DVD discs

    1) Do you know in practice which free software is better, the Decrypter or Shrink?

    2) Must the Nero 6 be installed in order to use either the Decrypter or Shrink and why? Thanks.

    Hello,
You're mixing the two up a little. Dvd Decrypter JUST copies the dvd to the harddrive. That's fine if its a single layer but if you have a dual layer burner you need to compress dual layer dvds.

DVD Shrink decrypts AND shrinks the disc so it will fit to a single layer. If its already a single layer all it does is decrypt it to the hard drive like dvd decrypter.

I believe dvd decrypter burns on its own. You WILL need nero for dvdshrink to burn. Though, you should have a burning suite with your dvd burner.

  3. i would say that the combination of dvd decrypter and dvd2one,is the best IMO.
and as far as im converned,Nero6 is shite for burning,so i use copytodvd.
never had a coaster that way,not interested with shrink or nero.

  4. I use a combination of DVD Drcrypter, DVD Shrink, and CopytoDVD.

Like Fox Breath, with shrink and copytodvd, never had a coaster yet.

  5. I just use DVD Shrink and I haven't had any problems yet. But for DVD-5 back-ups I make an ISO with DVD Decrypter and then burn with DVD Decrypter. I haven't had a coaster yet. I have a Pioneer DVR-107D.

If all you're doing is ripping and then reburning a DVD-5, I daresay Decrypter is better. It's more developed at what it does - rip DVD's.

Latest DVD Shrink version embedded former version of DVD decrypter. DVD Shrink is more intuitive to use but less capable of ripping DVD than current DVD Decrypter.

  9. Use them both. Choose in shrink to write with decrypter. When its ready, up comes decrypter ready to write.
