  1. Hi guys. I just ripped my copy of kate and leopold onto 2 discs using dvdxcopy. The second disc played fine on my panasonic standalone, but the first disc did not. The panasonic played a brief 30 seconds of the initial fbi warnings and such and then just stopped completely.

I checked the 1st disc and confirmed that the contents of the dvd was all there. I then tried to burn the disc again, same result. No play. I am now at the end of my wits.

I checked the vob files and found that the files are playable using powerdvd, so i like to know if there's a way of reencoding the vob files only so i can make a playble dvd back up.

    Much Obliged!

    Hello,
Why don't you use dvdshrink to shrink to one dvdr?

Anyway, heres how to burn vobs only: (no reencoding needed)
    1 - make a folder called video_ts
2 - put the vobs in this folder
3 - load dvd burning software (nero, roxio, etc)
4 - use data mode, select the video_ts folder as main project
5 - burn it (make sure your in disc at once mode and finalize)

    There you go.

@yoda - won't he lose the menus like that?
try loading the bad disc into dvd shrink and shrink it down just a little - like 98% - only takes about 20 minutes - and i think that should slove the problem.
With all due respect... and there is respect...

It depends on how he got his vobs. I don't know that. You can do a full backup with dvdshrink, of course that means higher compression. The video_ts burning method is for getting the vobs onto the dvd so it will play on any dvd player. I've done this every time I make dvds with perfect results.
