Ok this is how it goes

Rip a DVD using Shrink no problem, but once it kicks Nero in as soon as the 'lead in' has finished 1% showing the very second it moves to 'track' it locks the machine up.

I shrinked the DVd onto the HD and tried it from there using the DVD UDF/ISO bit in Burning Rom, exactly the same thing happens.

Right about now your thinking it's the discs, but it does a DVD to DVd disc copy no problem with same discs and I have just got hold of a +RW disc and exactly the same thing, I have just updated my Pioneer 106D writers firmware to the latest and no change, I have uninstalled Nero and re installed and updated to the very latest version and no change, I have un installed Shrink and re loaded it, that program seems to work fine though, it's just Nero.

The annoying thing like I said was that putting a DVD-R in the Samsung Sd-616 Rom and a identical disc in the Pioneer and clicking 'Disc copy' seems to work fine.

    Any ideas guys and gals??

    Hello,
Why don't you try the manual burn? Rip with dvdshrink, burn the vobs in a video_ts folder with your regular program. Set that burning program to disc at once, put the video_ts folder as the project, and burn. You shouldn't have any problems with the project. I've never had a problem doing that with Roxio. Good luck.

Hi Yoda and thnx for replying so quick

To be honest thats exactly what I am doing now

I use DVD Shrink but have it set to Shrink files to HD in the folder it chooses.

When it has finished the encoding process in the main folder on my HD it has placed the files are two folders - Audio_TS and Video_TS, inside the Video folder is all the main files .vob

I go to Burning Rom and drag the folders across and press burn, it goes through the setup bit, where I choose to burn with UDF/ISO option etc, I have set the burn speed to 1 , 2 and 4 and when trying the RW 2.4, it kicks the burning bit in, checks the media, burns the leadin, then at exactly the split second it changes from 'lead in' to 'track' the clock stops and the machine has frozen, a re boot is needed and a coaster follows.

You wouldn't by chance have a different hard drive to test this problem on, would you? Are you using the same hard drive to burn where Nero is located?

It kind of sounds like Nero and your particular HD are having issues.

On one occasion I noticed on my machine, a VIDEO_TS folder within a VIDEO_TS folder.

    Hi Poli

Shrink defaulted to C:\Hawkwind (which was the DVD I was doing at the time) inside that were the two Audio/Video folders, Nero is also on my C:\ drive

I will do the DVD again and tell it to put the files onto my second HD thanks.

Hope this works, the next step will be to use a differant Burning software apart from Nero to see if it's the Shrink which has made duff files, if it goes smoothly then its obviously a Shrink?Nero conflict but will try the HD part first
