    Friends,
I don't know if this is a hardware issue or some kind of rendering codec issue.

I have intel 2 quad cpu Q6600@2.4GHZ, 4GB reported as 3.24, Onboard (yes) G965 3100 using 358MB and HDD sata scoring 5.5. Vista Home premium.

During playback of already ripped dvd files through VLC, PDVD, Nero showtime there are no problems. I can fast forward very smoothly, use slider instantly.

But when previewing same files in dvdshrink or nero recode there is considerable stutter during preview playback.

OK it is preview only, but my five year old old single core dog slow machine with 1gb ram I was not getting any stutter when previewing in shrink or recode. yes, that machine had a video card, but it was a 64mb AGP.

Can it be the absence of a card? can the 3100 be that bad? Or is it possible I am missing a rendering codec or have some setting wrong or absent?

    Thanks

I guess I will try bumping my own question (just once).

Or perhaps a mod can move this to a more relevant subforum if there is one?

  5. It's pretty hard to diagnose that type of problem.

You could first try GSpot. Use its little rendering tool to see what filters are used.

You could also try installing GraphEdit (don't know if if works on Vista) and view the filter graph it builds to display the files. Then build alternate graphs.

If you are able to isolate the problematic filter you can use one of the filter managers to lower its priority or remove it. Directshow Filter Manager, FilMerit http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm
