I just built a new computer. I have a Pioneer DVD burner (ATAPI IDE) from the previous computer and purchased a new LiteOn DVD burner (SATA) to use as well. I have always burned my dvd's using DVDShrink which automatically opens Nero to burn the DVD. I always use DVD-Rs (occasionally DVD+R DL) and have never had a problem previously. With this new setup I have a strange issue.
I installed Nero 8 essentials, which came with the new DVD burner, and then DVDShrink. I enabled "burn with Nero." When it finishes "encoding" and starts to burn, one of two things happens. Trying to burn on the old Pioneer, I get an error message which has something to do with "tracks not compatible," and it stops. If I burn to the new LiteOn burner, it seems to burn completely with the usual lead in and lead out, but when I try to play it on one of 3 DVD players and 1 standalone DVD recorder, I get a message "cannot play disc, incompatible type." The disc will play fine on the computer.
The strange thing is that if I burn the same files to a DVD directly inside Nero, I can burn to either DVD burner, and the discs play fine on the DVD players. I can also use ImageBurn for either DVD burner, and the discs burn fine and play on any DVD player.
Any ideas about where the incompatibility is???
I know I can just do things manually, and I know that people do prefer ImageBurn for burning, but to be honest, doing it the way I have with Nero always worked previously, and really is a lot easier saving several steps.
Thanks for the help.

You can also use imgburn similar way as nero automatic. Install first imgburn then install the dvdshrink for imgburn, http://download3.videohelp.com/DVDShrink32_w_ImgBurn.rar

I have tried using the "imageburn" version of DVDShrink, but even when I change and use the IB exe file, it still only gives me the option to burn with Nero. If I check it, then it still tries to use Nero. If I remove the check, it doesn't give me an option to burn the DVD directly and only gives me options to store the encoded files on my hard drive.

When you uninstalled the old version and installed the new version, did you first:
1) Delete the folder for DVDShrink in Programs? Maybe some junk was left after uninstall.
2) Delete any Application Data folders pertaining to DVDShrink in Documents and Settings?
3) Clean Windows prefetch?
Been a long time since I used Win98 (or DVDShrink for that matter), so maybe not exactly as above. The point being, you most probably didn't start with a clean slate with the new version, and are having trouble with "orphan" settings, so to speak. Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -

Thanks all for the help. I will try completely removing DVDShrink, but when I originally downloaded the "imageburn" version, the instructions were to install Imageburn, then install DVDShrink, then replace the original shrink .exe file with the one in the new download. I will try it all again.
I am unsure if the problem is only with Nero8, because I have old copies of Nero6 and Nero7, and the same thing is happening with any version I use.

It does take a bit of 'tinkering' sometimes to get Shrink/ImgBurn set up. What you are basically doing is fooling Shrink into thinking you are using Nero/DVD Decrypter for burning and redirecting it to the ImgBurn program. I still use Shrink a lot and it's a shame that it's no longer being developed.
