TMPGEnc Plus only uses ffdshow if the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader has the highest priority in Option -> Environmental setting -> VFAPI plug-in. Otherwise TMPGEnc uses the regular DivX/XviD codecs.
Anyway, I don't think uninstalling ffdshow will matter, but of course there are many versions of ffdshow. I always use the latest Athos build: http://athos.leffe.dnsalias.com/
If I install a build that causes problems I reinstall the previous build and all is well again. -
I honestly don't know if it will affect the quality, but you can always run a short test (use the Source Range in TMPGEnc to convert a small part of your AVI file). If you don't like the quality reinstall a better version of ffdshow. I like the latest Athos build a lot, but I don't convert divx/xvid to (S)VCD or DVD, I have a videocard with tv-out (much easier). I only use ffdshow for playback, haven't tried the other divx/xvid codecs in a long time.
